Seems I have returned to normal (though I have really not found “normal” since I finished chemo 7 years back) – anyhoo – am normal enough that I have mostly figured out what I was doing at work before I left.
We have this tradition that has taken on a life of its own over the last years, that while we wait for the Sanctuary to clear on Sunday night (keeping the choir captive so we have help to clean up!) we pull out the Christmas head gear and sing the likes of “Jingle Bells”, “White Christmas”, and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. We should start giving prizes for the head gear as it grows more “interesting” year after year…..

This one was taken in the Choir Room before the afternoon concert on Sunday. The “ears” were a gift from Patty who just returned from WDW. Note that yours truly has hers on backwards! |

At least my ears face the right way here. There is a lot going on in this picture! |
The really fun part of this to me is that I tend to give mine away. I had this year a regular Santa hat, a chimney hat with Santa’s legs sticking out and the new ears. I gave Katibeth the new ears (and actually got a hug from her) and gave someone else (do not remember who) my chimney hat. Someone else borrowed the Santa hat. I will go to Walgreens and stock up again after Christmas. It is sort of a gift that keeps on giving….
Christy Williams manufactured a hat for LLG that looks like the “Mad Hatter” for this year. In the past (and certainly this year) there have been a variety of reindeer antlers (with and without lights and bells) and “Grinch” type Santa hats, etc. It is a fun way to end the weekend.
At least now I have done most of the gift wrapping and did a little baking for a couple of events this week and even watched “White Christmas”. We have our office lunch tomorrow – small intimate group of about 120! It will be fun. Everyone’s spirits are high and that is fun to see. Sort of takes the edge off how busy we really are. Now if I can just get my house cleaned up before we have in-and-out company the next couple of weeks.
I have found myself “irked” by the politically correct overuse of “Happy Holidays”. And in a very un-Christ-like manner want to choke folks who abbreviate the word “Christmas” by “x’ing” out His name.
And then I remember Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Be an example. Motivate others. Live for Him. Live LIKE Him. Don’t spend a week totally focused on Him and then let the devil steal your JOY!
So on my list is to remember that I am “Still Choosing Joy”.
Emmanuel. God with us. I Believe.
